75 Poodles seized:

As many of you already know from TV and the local newspaper,
approximately 75 poodles plus, were found in squalid conditions June
12th and 13th in the home of a Duchesne County breeder who had become
ill and unable to care for them.

Unfortunately, the dogs went without food or water for about five days
until family came forward after the owner died at the hospital.
The Roosevelt Animal Shelter Manager Kim Farley and Darlene Koerner
(Pet Samaritan) are working with other agencies to transfer dogs to
places as soon as possible……they are limited in space and are in dire
need of funds and help for the rest left in the home and at the
shelter.  Several of these poodles are still at the home.  Live traps
have been set to bring the remaining ones into the already overcrowded
City Shelter.

The Roosevelt/Duchesne County Shelter is in dire need of supplies and
donations to continue their progress with the remaining dogs….until
the majority can be re-located or adopted.

Please send donations in care of:
Pet Samaritan Fund, 3802 S Sunnydale Dr., Salt Lake City Utah, 84109
or to
Shelter Paws (c/o Darlene Koerner) P.O. Box 102, Vernal Utah, 84026

About Pet Samaritan...

The Pet Samaritan Fund, a nonprofit organization established in 1991, aids needy animals in the Salt Lake City, Utah, and Vernal, Utah, communities.

Every penny we raise goes to caring for our animals, and we never euthanize a healthy animal.

We provide

  • Shelter for sick, injured, abandoned, and abused animals
  • Financial assistance to Utah pet owners who cannot afford medical care for their pets due to extreme financial hardship (up to $100 upon receipt of veterinary billing statement)
  • Loving homes for unwanted animals brought to the hospital to be euthanized
  • Assistance spaying and neutering stray animals

Caring for Homeless Pets...

It is the highest priority of the Pet Samaritan Fund to adopt out healthy and behaviorally sound animals to our caring community. Our adoption fees help to offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding and medical care for the thousands of animals that need our help.

We do our best to keep our adoption prices reasonable while generating income to support our goal of caring for adoptable animals until we can place them in a loving home. Because we are a nonprofit, donations subsidize the gap between the cost for care and the adoption fee. It is only through the generosity of donors that we have the resources to help so many animals and hold them until we can find a home.

Dog adoption fees range from $100 to $150 plus. Cat adoption fees: $75 to $100 plus. The adoption fee for each animal varies and is dependent on many factors including: age, size, behavior, medical condition, and public demand. You'll find that our adoption package is a great value. If you are 60 years or older, ask about our Senior Adoption Discount program.

Adoption Package Includes:

  • Sterilization (spay/neuter)
  • Microchip
  • Personalized identification tag
  • One month of pet health insurance
  • Complete Vaccination series
  • Includes Rabies
  • Deworming (young animals)
  • Pet Information
